Write it and say what inspired it if you wish (though I don't think it's necessary, as the original idea sounds both common enough not to be "owned" by the OP, and your prompt is removed enough to be its own thing) but don't expect the OP to read it. IDK, this sounds like you could just post it somewhere and claim it was your idea all along.

Well, it is a rather recognizable fusion (hardly unique, but no fandom staple either), with certain recognizable details from the prompt.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect the OP to read it; I would have been upset if someone filled my prompt, but substituted the requested pairing with the second biggest one in fandom. IDK, hope the writing bug will pass.

I'd write it; you never know if it won't change some more along the way! Indulge the bug and see where it takes you. Like Marina says, if the prompt is recognisable you can always say what about it inspired you in particular.
