I sometimes abuse ampersands

The House of Aunts by Zen Cho is a short story that would have been your typical high school vampire romance (admittedly, more Let the Right One In than Twilight), had it not been set with Malaysia with awesome local cultural details, and had the intergenerational vampire conflict not been so steeped in local history. An unexpected perspective, and sorta cool that the intergenerational conflict, which is usually conceptualized as a father-son Oedipal drama, revolves in this case around the girl's standoff with her grandmother and great-aunts.
