Meanwhile, I'm so angry with the X-Men franchise that I'm almost hyperventilating. X-posting news from the ComicCon:
Stentz [scriptwriter] basically confirmed Erik/Charles (he called First Class, “the tragic romance of Charles and Erik”) and went on to describe how if certain events/personal ideologies/chosen paths hadn’t forced them apart, Erik and Charles would most certainly be together. According to him, it’s one of those “they’re meant for each other, but fate refuses to let them stay together” situations.
And - I CAN'T EVEN. It's the question of artistic and/or personal integrity: if he wanted to be all progressive and shit, he should have told that story on-screen, rather than writing explicit het relationships while patting the fen on the head: "Whatever you want, gals, of course they totes are gay for each other, just buy the damn dvds". He doesn't get to be both progressive and heteronormative, he cannot claim both those things :(

Oh dear. Not funny. There's fanservice and then there's this (at least Rowling had the excuse of children's books being non-edgy by necessity. Though I am still annoyed they did not include even throwaway lines _in the books_ about some of the students being gay).

I was more than fine with MacAvoy toying with the fans, since he doesn't have that level of authorial control. But the scriptwriter producing such BS is another matter altogether.

I think they stopped thinking about what they're doing.

Enforcing of traditional gender stereotypes in actresses' off-stage representations?
It seems that they do think, but I don't like their conclusion & the fandom's inforcement of them :-/

Well, are you really surprised about fandom?
